Cheers

I am a freaking noob when it comes to pcs. I acquired a zonealarm...thing, that was from the uni I go to. And after that and a deep virus scan, I could no longer use ie or ICQ messenger. I uninstalled them and downloaded them again, rebooted my mac a few times, but nothing is working. I keep getting a message that something needs to be done with my fire wall and HTTP, HTTPS, and FTP ports.

Recommendations any of you?

Well bud... some one has to say this. First get to a window. Then open it and take a nice big breath of fresh air. Got that? now with your mind cleared and your head fully functioning its time for the most important step. Take your Mac slowly walk it to the window and heave that bitch like a body off a cruise liner. If you do that step properly it should immediately resolve any further issues related to the firewall and or virus scan programs.

Now that your head ake is gone. Go to the store get a real computer. Get a TB drive like the ones that Maxtor make. they offer a great deal of protection for your data. Download MalwareBytes program. Then surf the internet Bare back no firwall no condoms no zone alarm. If something REALLY BAD happens then F-disk (start with fresh copy of windows) have a folder with all programs and addons that you can just reinstall quickly. every week save your Fire Fox bookmarks and you will be golden I promise!

How do I get my firewall to accept Magicjack? should I just get a firewall that learns how to do it by itself automatic? I have ghost firewall, because it uses very little PC resources, the reason I need this is because of my older PC is very small, but runs really smooth, it is an older eMachine with only 256mb, so I need a firewall that will accept magicjack, thanks.

Hey, I have this same exact question. I'm also using ghost wall and am trying to set up magic jack to where it excepts calls.

Here are some links I've found:
Code:
http://www.moushigo.com/index.php/2009/01/29/magicjack-installation-firewall-setup-and-port-settings/

Here is what ghost wall looks like

Code:
http://www.ghostsecurity.com/help/ghostwall/index.php?page=start

From the link I posted, it seems opening all those ports would be a bit unsecured. I'm not familiar with firewalls, but will opening all those ports mentioned and putting in my ip address work? Will it also give an opening for more outside connections to enter my computer?

For those of you with linux-based operating systems you'll need a front end to iptables or read the man pages on iptables
I suggest moblock which includes blockcontrol and does two things for you - first up its a peer guardian - that really helps stop thos nasty letters that your ISP forwards on to you from time to time and secondly if you're running iptables it will manage whitelisting and blacklisting your ports.

Another thing to note that if your going through an access point you'll either ghave to set it to plug and play forwarding or mannually forward the ports that your bittorrent client uses to the machine that you bittorrent client is running on.

howtoforge is a great site for all linux related things.

Cheers
